A Dream! - June Enters the Wynne Prize 2001

The Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes are awarded by the Art Gallery of New South Wales to Australian painters. A long held dream, June submitted two multimedia paintings for the 2001 show. They depict the unique Bungle Bungles of the far north of Western Australia

‘A Quality Life’ - Haikus

In her last year, June worked intensely on her memoirs A Quality Life, an interesting reflection on her life and times, and her final great challenge of living with Motor Neurone Disease. Forced to compose much prose in her head before transcription by family or friends, she put together a small collection of haikus - some of which are reproduced here.

Her book has been distributed to family and friends, and can be bought online as an ebook (ISBN 9781618429247) or paperback (ISBN 9780646904740). All proceeds go to MND NSW, Australia.

    trickling stream gurgles
brings music to dreams by night
    dreams of days long past

    little cumquat balls
    small orange suns midst green
    light up dull winter days

    sunlight filters through
    trees form patterns and free
    imagination

    still fern fronds stirred by
    gentle breeze, welcome the day
    wave me good morning

    noisy birds signal
    gathering storm clouds burst forth
    quench the thirsty earth

    dry creek comes to life
    sudden rain rushing water
    is joy to my ears
